A native of Baton Rouge and a proud alumna of Denham Springs High School, Melissa “Dani” Altazin is deeply rooted in our community. After receiving her B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from LSU, she and her husband, Ryan, chose to raise their three children within the East Baton Rouge public school system. Her commitment to our city is both personal and lifelong.
Dani’s journey into public advocacy began when she faced a private battle with an eating disorder. Recognizing the immense hurdles families face when seeking specialized care, she refused to remain silent and instead pioneered the first NEDA walk in Baton Rouge. This drive to transform personal challenges into community action continues to define her work today.
She now channels that tireless energy into our educational system. A constant presence at board meetings, Dani champions transparency and evidence-based policy. From testifying at the State Capitol to defending EBR schools, she is a steadfast protector of our students' future.
